Celebrate Good Times... COME ON!

The family that celebrates together stays together should be the motto of every family. If you have been together for several years or even months, you should have a number of memories that help to bind you together. “Kool and the Gang” had a song that expressed it this way, “Celebrate good times, come on…It’s time to celebrate together, come on what’s your pleasure.” We should put a high priority on special days like birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, vacations and Valentine’s Day.

Memories are created during these special events. We should take lots of pictures. Now we can post the pictures on Facebook, Twitter and many other social media venues. Every so often, Facebook will send memories. You can also take advantage of the many venues that create memory books. Also, you can send pictures around the world in seconds. As the children get older you have a way to stay connected. Let celebrations be the glue that holds the family together. My Sociology Professor, Tony Campolo, used to say that the family that celebrates together stays together.

For the first time in my life, Thanksgiving and Christmas will be small celebrations. In the age of Covid-19, we have to make adjustments as we thank God and celebrate the birth of Christ in a different manner. This year being without the extended family will help us appreciate the larger group in the future.

There are things that you can do to feel connected regardless of the Coronavirus Crisis. You can FaceTime the extended family and you can have dinner together. You can share through Facebook Live. Posting on social media is another way to connect with each other. Another possibility is to share pictures of the meal and the people who are present. Let’s use our creativity and develop ways of staying connected.
